I once knew a guy who'd worked at FedEx, bottom-end, in the late 1980's. He saw Fred "drop in" to their airport a time or two. (When low-end managers demonstrated that they were the 4th Type of officer*). From the stories, I'd say the FedEx workers felt hard-driven - but they respected Fred, and didn't think the managers in-between were treated any better.
